Western Governors University, a non-profit, competency based online university headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, is seeking qualified professionals as short-term contractors to write test items for a literature assessment. Item writers will be fully trained and are paid between $15-25 for each completed, approved item. Item writers may work from home anywhere in the U.S. and determine their own hours.

Candidates should possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in English, English teaching, literature or humanities with a literature emphasis. Familiarity with British, American and major works of world fiction, poetry, and drama is required. Candidates must have experience with college-level critical reading and interpretation. They should have strong communication and writing skills and be able to work independently and meet deadlines.

Candidates who are current graduate students or have earned graduate degrees, as well as candidates with experience teaching introductory undergraduate literature classes or honors and AP high school classes are strongly encouraged to apply.
