Saw A Midsummer Night last night at the Grand Hotel presented by Lord Ralph's Men/Marry Baldwin College etc. etc. OMSweetG I had such a devine time. SOOOO old school style at both the hotel (had to wear a dress) and in true Shakespeare style. Multi-role actors/lack of lighting cues/props/interaction with the audience. Truly how a show would have been for the everyday troupe in Will's day. Ended the evening in the Coupla tower (center look out tower of Grand) listening to a real old fashion panio/scat singer who looked like he was 80, yet sang with the energy of a twenty year old. Then went down around 1 am and sat on the Grand porch in a rocking chair and felt like I was lost Somewhere in Time.
OOoo. That sounds fabulous. Someday I'm going to come out and visit you, and we must spend a night in the Grand Hotel. And if there's a Shakespeare play to see, all the better! :)
The Utah Shakespearean Festival isn't quite authentic-- they do use modern lighting and props (although there isn't a backdrop or scenery), but the plays are done in repertory, so you see the same actors in different roles on different nights. And the costuming is all straight Elizabethan-- no "modern dress" stuff for them! :P
